THE PLACEMENT PROCESS:

We use our best endeavours to match the person and the dog or cat, and then support the relationship between the pet and the foster carer.

1.      In response to a request, we carefully select a dog from a Pound or Shelter which, we believe, will be appropriate to your needs.

2.      The dog will be:
Micro-chipped and registered.
·         Examined by one of our vets(teeth, eyes, heart, lungs and joints).
·         Shampoo-ed and groomed
·         Heartworm tested
·         Wormed
·         Vaccinated
·         De-sexed
·         Assessed for dietary needs.

3.      The dog is then placed in the care of one of our Behavioral Assessors. He or she will monitor the dog’s temperament and general behaviour over a period of 2-4 weeks. The potential new owner may like to visit the dog during this time.

If the dog shows signs of aggression or instability, it will be removed from the program.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU IS TO:

·          Understand your needs and preferences for a special pet
·         Select a dog just for you from a Sydney-based  Pound or Shelter
·          Finance pre-placement vet costs, including a vet consultation, micro-chipping, vaccination, worming, flea treatment, de-sexing and other identified health requirements.
·          Assess the dog’s temperament and behaviour
·          Advise you on caring for your dog, covering such topics as nutrition, training and exercise.
·          Teach the dog to come when called, and to sit on command.
·          Accept a dog back should the need arise; (see terms and conditions in the Owners Agreement).

WHAT WE ASK YOU TO DO

Purchase the dog for a subsidized contribution of $380.

After you have adopted the dog, it is your responsibility to:

·          Maintain the dog in good health.
·          Arrange and pay for veterinary care, when needed.
·          Vaccinate annually
·          Treat monthly for flea and heartworm prevention
·          Maintain ongoing contact with us.
·          Attach a tag with dog’s identification details to the dog’s collar
·         Communicate any concerns to us via email or phone.
·          Arrange the safe return of the dog, should this be necessary.
·          Inform us of the death of the dog.
